My very first Christmas Charity Project Lead in the Philippines!

Updated: Jan 31

Nothing beats celebrating Christmas the filipino way.

Christmas celebration in the Philippines will always be special to me 🎄

Christmas celebration in the Philippines stands out as the longest and most festive in Asia. This significant time of the year holds immense importance as Filipinos eagerly reunite with their families and loved ones. The Christmas spirit begins to envelop the nation as early as the start of the "ber" months, with September marking the onset of festive preparations.

Having experienced Christmas celebrations across various destinations, I can confidently attest to the authentic grandeur of Christmas in the Philippines. With approximately 90% of Filipinos identifying as Christians, and 80% of them being Catholic, the holiday holds a profound cultural and religious significance. Even in provinces like Borbon, where my mother grew up, Christmas is celebrated with fervor, transcending material constraints.

Leading this Christmas event was just so much fun

Eager to contribute to the festive atmosphere in Borbon, I took the initiative to organize a Christmas party for the entire village during my stay. Privately funding the event with the support of my family, I collaborated with a motivated local to plan activities that would resonate with the spirited Filipino community. Unsurprisingly, the lineup included hours of spirited Karaoke sessions, showcasing the Filipinos' penchant for music and entertainment.

The festivities extended to activities for both children and parents, culminating in an invitation for everyone to dance.

The infectious energy of the Filipinos, who seamlessly transitioned from Karaoke to dancing, never ceases to amaze me. The celebration concluded with a heartwarming and fulfilling Christmas dinner, a privilege for many to end the night with satisfied stomachs. This endeavour aimed not only to spread joy but also to create lasting memories for the community during the extended Christmas season in the Philippines.
